Try not to use any abbreviations except for Mr., Mrs., Ms., Jr., Sr., and c/o. Military abbreviations are acceptable if address is lengthy.

Try not to use any symbols such as # or &.

Initials in people's names should be spelled out or dropped.

The names of all US states should be spelled out entirely.

Numbered streets should be spelled out (First not 1st ).

The parts of street names should be spelled out. (Avenue not Ave).

Street directions should be spelled out (North not N.)

The outer envelope should contain the main residents (owners) or parents names and the inner envelope the names of the invited guests or children.

Widows are still considered Mrs. out of respect for their deceased husbands
